YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts has launched a photo contest as part of the YWCA’s Stand Against Racism. We all look at the world through our own unique set of “lenses” that filter our perceptions of people, places, events and experiences. The YWCA wants to see diversity through your “lens” and invites you to “focus” in on what diversity and inclusion means to you. “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and a dramatic image can change and enhance our perception and understanding. Amateur photographers, young people and adults alike are invited to capture images of the SouthCoast’s diversity.
The winner will have their photograph prominently displayed at the photo exhibit, in the YWCA newsletter, and on the YWCA website. The photo exhibition will be held on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts, 20 South Sixth Street, New Bedford from 9:00am – 4:00pm.
“We want to see images that reflect the beauty and diversity of the SouthCoast. One of the best aspects of this contest is that everyone from children to adults has the same chance of winning if they take the right picture. If you look around your neighborhood, you might find you have a scene that embraces and celebrates diversity right on your own doorstep,” said Athena Mota, Director of Advocacy and Communications.
Entries must be received by Friday, April 20, 2012. Entries should reflect the theme—Stand Against Racism, Celebrate Diversity. Go to www.ywcasema.org to enter. Submissions must be emailed to Athena Mota: amota@ywcasema.org. For more information, please contact: 508-999-3255.
