The YWCA remains at the forefront of addressing racial and gender inequities, advocating for racial justice, economic advancement and the empowerment of women and girls. The YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts continues to provide opportunities to help women and their families reach their fullest potential.
The programs and services of the YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts are identified in five areas: Advocacy, Adult Services, Youth Services, Wellness for Women & Girls and the Women's Collaborative Project.
Advocacy includes programs and activities that address positions of women and girls and the potential for their empowerment in political, financial, social, educational and legislative processes. YWCA’s Hallmark Programs: Racial Justice and Women’s Economic Advancement. Racial Justice Workshops and Study Circles, Financial Planning Workshops, WAGE (Women Are Getting Even) Clubs around pay inequity, The Clothesline Project: a visual display that bears testament to violence against women, The Mayor’s Youth Council, YWCA Week Without Violence, National Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism, Equal Pay Day, Leadership Development Programs for Young Women and Public Policy.
Adult Services includes Short-Distance Medical Transportation for persons over age 60 and the Widowed Persons Program for men and women.
Youth Services includes Yw kids School Age Child Care, which provides licensed child care with transportation to 102 children ages 5-13 after school and during vacations. Other programs include, Home Alone & Babysitting courses, Girls Giving and Growing, Teen Talk and Zoey’s Room, a computer program for girls that focuses on math, science, and technology.
Wellness for Women & Girls includes ENCOREplus, a community outreach and education program for women focusing on breast and cervical health. The program also refers women for annual medical services. The second component of this program, Waterpals, provides support and land/pool exercises for women recovering from breast cancer. Other programs include, HEARTplus, which provides outreach and awareness around cardiovascular disease, Health Fairs, Nutrition Workshops and informational activities around women's health.
The Women's Collaborative Project provides residential and supportive services for women. A Woman’s Place and Another Woman’s Place provides single-occupancy housing in a congregate living model for low-income women. The Blue Triangle Company is a job readiness and training service for women. It also provides copying, collating and binding services. |
